Challenge Exams

The Gabriela Mistral Latin American School is offering Challenge Exams to students who are able to demonstrate their knowledge and competency in Spanish 10, 20 or 30. If you are a student who is proficient in Spanish and Spanish 10, 20 or 30 is not offered at your high school, you may write a challenge exam. The Challenge for Credit option allows you to demonstrate, by a predetermined process, that you are proficient in Spanish without having to complete the entire course. Upon successful completion of the Challenge Exam, the student will obtain 5 credits.

PROCEDURES

The challenge process involves a formal assessment in order to determine whether you have mastered Spanish 10, 20 or 30. The Spanish teacher, in conjunction with the School Principal, will make a determination as to whether you should be allowed to challenge a course.

  • Apply in writing, to the Principal, indicating the intended course
  • You will have a formal interview
  • You will be required to write an exam for the intended course
  • Students who successfully challenge a course will receive a final mark and credits for the course
  • Final results are automatically recorded and submitted to Alberta Learning

FEES
The fee for the challenge exam is $75.00.

The Challenge for Credit Course fee is non-refundable.
Cancellation or failure to complete all requirements will result in a failing grade.
